Sell puts to get assigned. Sell calls to get called away. The strategy works. The boredom is killing you. We catch you taking unrelated YOLO trades on slow days "for fun." That's the leak. The wheel generates income. The unrelated trade gives it back.

The wheel works. Not in question. Sell cash-secured puts on stocks you'd own at the strike. Get assigned. Sell covered calls above cost. Get called away at a profit. Repeat. Generates consistent, positive-expectancy income, doesn't require you to be right about direction. You have the patience to run it, rarer than it sounds. Equity curve is what it should be.

The leak isn't the wheel. The leak is what happens when a strategy that doesn't require your judgment stops requiring judgment, and the silence becomes intolerable. The unrelated trade is almost always disconnected from your wheel holdings. Not an extension of the thesis — a separate bet, entered out of restlessness, with the wheel's gains as the implicit backstop.

Whatever the wheel makes you, the unrelated trade gives back. Not coincidence, not a fluke. The strategy that works is being taxed by the behaviour that doesn't. You're using a mature process to fund an immature one.

Most days: clean. A put to sell, a call expiring worthless, premium collected. Dashboard looks good. Check at lunch and close the app. This is what working looks like.

Then a quiet stretch. Wheel positions are fine. Nothing to do. Open Twitter. Something is moving on a print. Some volume setup. Open the option chain. Think: "I'll just put on a small one." Size it reasonably. Feels reasonable.

A day or two later. The unrelated trade has reversed. Close it for a loss roughly the size of what the wheel just made you. Tally the month, side by side, and the picture lands.

Tomorrow the wheel positions are fine. Check at lunch and close the app. The next quiet stretch is never far away.

Log every off-book trade separately. Label it "off-book." At month end, two numbers: wheel P&L alone, off-book P&L alone. Side by side. You don't need to be told what you'll see. You need to see it in your own data, from your own trades, in your own month.

After three months, ask yourself: if I had run the wheel and done nothing else, would I have more money? When the answer is yes — and it will be — you have permission from the math to stop. Not "I think I should stop." Not willpower. The math says stop. Math is easier to listen to than willpower.

If boredom is real and you can't eliminate it through will: allocate a small slice of the account to a "speculation bucket." Trade that slice however you want. Run the wheel on the rest without interference. Separate accounts if necessary. The leak isn't the impulse to speculate — it's the impulse landing inside the wheel account.
